The Naked Warrior Project was started by Navy SEAL, John Owens. John started The Naked Warrior Project to memorialize his brother Ryan, also a Navy SEAL, who was killed in combat in Yemen on January 29, 2017. John sat with the decision for some time of what to do to keep Ryan’s legacy alive. He knew he wanted to see Ryan have a memorial to show just how extraordinary he was and what he had accomplished. He also knew that a local run would be the way to accomplish it. The Owens family as a whole had a long standing tradition of running together in races and recording the outcomes on a family trophy. John created the Ryan Owens Memorial Run for his family and as a way to create a legacy he knew Ryan would want.
The proceeds from the Ryan Owens Memorial Run will go to building a statue in South Florida to bring Ryan home to his family, friends, and community. You can find out more information about their current and future projects, please visit www.nakedwarriorproject.org.
